Active Away x HVS-Tennis: Bringing Tennis Holidays to Finland in 2027

I’m really pleased to share something we’ve been working on behind the scenes at Active Away.

We are partnering with HVS-Tennis in Finland to launch a new tennis holiday programme for Finnish players in 2027.

This one feels like a really good fit.

HVS-Tennis has a huge tennis community in Helsinki, and at Active Away we have always believed that the best trips are built around good people, good tennis and a proper group feel. The destination matters, of course, but it is the atmosphere that usually makes people want to come back.

That is what we are hoping to build here.

A bit about HVS-Tennis

The scale of HVS-Tennis is impressive.

HVS-Tennis has around 4,200 members, which is roughly 17% of registered tennis players in Finland. They also deliver around 48,000 coaching hours every year.

That is a lot of forehands.

They are closely connected with two major tennis centres in Helsinki:

  • Tali Tennis Center welcomes around 30,000 players each year, plus 10,000 event participants. It has 26 indoor courts and 9 outdoor courts.
  • Taivallahti Tennis Centre welcomes around 7,000 players each year, with 6 indoor courts and 1 outdoor court.

So this is not a small tennis setup.

It is a proper tennis environment, with coaching, members, events, competition and a lot of people who clearly love the sport.

That is exactly the sort of community we want to work with.

Why this partnership makes sense

At Active Away, we do not want our holidays to feel like a standard package trip with a bit of tennis added on.

The tennis has to be strong, but the week has to work off court as well. Having players from Finland join our British players should create a really fun feeling!

Since 2006, we have welcomed thousands of guests to the Active Away family, and the reason so many come back is not just the coaching. It is the people.

That is why this partnership with HVS-Tennis is so exciting. They already have the tennis community in Finland. We can bring the hosted holiday experience, the coaching structure, the destinations and the support before, during and after the trip.

Together, it should work really well.

What Finnish players can expect

The aim is to make everything feel easy from the start.

Active Away will manage the holiday delivery, booking process, customer support, on-site hosting and tennis programme. HVS-Tennis will help introduce the holidays to its members and wider tennis network in Finland.

That means Finnish players will have a familiar tennis connection at home, with the Active Away team looking after the actual holiday experience.

There will be dedicated holiday pages, clear information, booking support, WhatsApp groups for each trip and regular updates as the programme develops.

The first 2027 holiday plans

We are currently looking at three key destinations for the first stage of the HVS-Tennis and Active Away programme.

Rather than trying to launch too many trips at once, we want to start with venues we know can deliver a really good week.

Beach Club, Mallorca

Planned dates: 24 April - 1 May 2027

Beach Club, Mallorca is planned as a closed HVS group, and I think it could be a brilliant way to start.

Spring sunshine, red clay courts and a full week of tennis in Mallorca is a pretty strong combination.

The resort has that relaxed Mediterranean feel, with the courts close by and plenty of space to settle into the week. It should work really well for players who want a proper tennis-focused holiday, but still want to feel like they are away somewhere lovely.

Lyttos Mare, Crete

Planned dates: 11 - 20 September 2027

Lyttos Mare has become one of our flagship venues, and for good reason.

The facilities are excellent, the resort feels premium, and the tennis setup is brilliant. It is the kind of place where you can train properly in the morning, play good doubles later in the day, and still feel like you are very much on holiday.

That balance is what we are always looking for.

Lyttos Mare also has a real energy about it. There is always something going on, the pool area has a great atmosphere, and the whole place suits guests who want a good mix of tennis, food, sunshine and social time.

Aphrodite Hills, Cyprus

Planned dates: 17 - 24 October 2027

Aphrodite Hills has been one of our most popular tennis destinations for years.

It is a beautiful resort, the tennis facilities are strong, and late October sunshine is always a very welcome thing.

For Finnish players heading towards winter, a week of tennis in Cyprus feels like a pretty good way to stretch the season out for a little longer.

The resort has both clay and hard courts, which is a big plus, and the setting is one of the best we work with. It is one of those places where the holiday feels easy from the moment you arrive.

Coaching from both Active Away and HVS-Tennis

One of the biggest positives of this partnership is the coaching setup.

The plan is to have a mix of Active Away coaches and HVS-Tennis representation, with Finnish coaching support involved in each camp.

That matters.

It means the trips should still feel like an Active Away holiday, with the same structure, energy and hosting standards, but with familiar Finnish representation in the group as well.

Our coaching style is built around clear themes, lots of hitting, doubles tactics, social matchplay and making sure everyone feels included. We want players to improve, but we also want them to enjoy the week.

More than just a tennis week

The tennis programme is at the heart of the trip, but a good tennis holiday is about more than the sessions.

It is the group atmosphere.

It is the dinners.

It is the slightly questionable line calls that get laughed about later.

It is the person who says they are “just here for fun” and then turns into peak Rafael Nadal when the team match starts.

That is the part we love.

And that is what we want to create with HVS-Tennis: proper tennis, great destinations and a group feel that makes people want to book again.

A careful launch

We are taking our time with the launch because we want to do it properly.

There will be dedicated landing pages, email updates, digital screens, printed flyers, club communication and in-person activity. We also expect there to be opportunities for players in Finland to learn more about the holidays before the official launch.

We do not want to rush out a long list of trips and hope for the best.

We want to build a programme that makes sense for Finnish players, with the right venues, the right dates and the right support.

Looking ahead

I’m genuinely excited about this partnership.

HVS-Tennis has a brilliant tennis community, and Active Away has years of experience running hosted tennis holidays across Europe. Bringing those two together gives us a real opportunity to build something that Finnish players can trust, enjoy and return to.

More details will follow soon, including confirmed dates, destinations and how to register interest.

In the meantime, you can register for updates through our 2027 Launch.

Quotes

"We are so excited to welcome players from HVS Tennis to our destinations in 2027. We think the blend of our two communities will make for an exceptional experience" - Josh Thompson, Managing Director, Active Away

"As the largest tennis club in Finland we are very excited to start this collaboration to make playing tennis even more available and easy also abroad. Our concept with our tennis club is to create amazing coaching to everyone from kids to senior citizens. The coaching is done in our ”Kotikenttä” - home turf that comprises of our facilities in Tali and Taivallahti. But the home turf can also be somewhere a little further away. Crete or Mallorca in the dark months of Finnish winter do not sound bad at all, even to me" - Saku Siivonen, Head of HVS-Tennis.
