What to Expect on an Active Away Holiday

Amelia DaviesTennis Holidays

If you’re thinking about booking an Active Away trip, or you’ve recently booked and are getting ready for your holiday, then this blog is for you.

We’re going to take you through what to expect on an Active Away holiday, from the WhatsApp group before you travel to the coaching, matchplay, group dinners and everything in between.

It’s this combination of fantastic coaching, attentive hosting and a brilliant group atmosphere that keeps our guests coming back and has helped us earn over 1,000 Trustpilot reviews, averaging 4.9/5.

Your holiday starts before you arrive!

At Active Away, we’re passionate about creating a fantastic community, and we believe it’s one of the biggest reasons our guests return year after year.

Before each trip, we set up a dedicated WhatsApp group, helping to create that group feel before you’ve even arrived at the airport.

It’s a chance to get to know your fellow travellers, while your host and coaches will introduce themselves and be on hand to answer any last-minute questions before you fly.

We’ll also share important pre-arrival information in the group, including transfer details, meeting points and useful updates, helping your holiday get off to the smoothest possible start.

Your hosts are on hand

Every trip is led by one of our fantastic Active Away hosts, who will be on hand throughout your holiday to make sure you have the best possible experience.

If you’ve arranged an airport transfer with Active Away, your host will be there to welcome you on arrival and help get your trip off to a smooth start.

Throughout the week, they’ll also be available to help with everything from restaurant reservations to hotel queries and anything else that might make your stay even better.

You’ll see plenty of them on court too. Our hosts lead from the front, delivering coaching sessions, organising matchplay and bringing the group together throughout the trip.

If there’s anything they can do to enhance your stay, just let them know.

Morning coaching

There’s no better way to start the day than getting out on court!

Mix in with the group, follow the session plan set out by your coaching team and start working on your game.

Our programmes have been carefully designed to help club players get the maximum possible benefit from their time on court. Our tennis programme has been developed with the help of Jamie Murray, while our padel programme has been developed with British No.2 padel player Louie Harris, ensuring you receive high-quality, structured tuition throughout your holiday.

Each day has a slightly different focus, allowing you to work on and develop different aspects of your game as the week progresses.

Your coaching team will also regularly review the groups to create different match-ups, give you the opportunity to play with different people and make sure you’re getting the most from every session.

Time to relax

After a busy morning on court, it’s time for a well-earned break.

Enjoy some lunch before relaxing and recharging ahead of the afternoon session. Many of our guests choose to make the most of the hotel’s pool and beach facilities, soak up the sunshine or simply enjoy some downtime with the group.

Fancy doing a little more? You can make use of the hotel’s other facilities, with our resorts offering plenty of ways to spend your time away from the court.

And if your legs are feeling the effects of the morning session, a visit to the spa might be exactly what you need!

Afternoon Masterclass

After some downtime, it’s time to meet the group back on court.

Many of our afternoon sessions begin with a Masterclass, where our hosts and coaches focus on a specific area of the game. They’ll break down the topic, demonstrate different options and offer practical solutions in an interactive on-court format.

On a typical week-long trip, you can expect four Masterclasses covering a variety of situations and scenarios, giving you plenty of new ideas to take into your own game.

Afternoon matchplay

Now it’s time to put everything into practice.

The format of our afternoon matchplay varies throughout the week. One day might feature a relaxed social format, while another could see you competing alongside your teammates in one of our group competitions.

Whatever the format, you can expect plenty of matches, multiple rounds and, most importantly, lots of fun.

Our coaches remain active throughout the matchplay sessions too, offering advice and coaching while you play. It gives you the opportunity to receive feedback in a genuine match situation, something our previous guests regularly highlight as one of their favourite parts of the trip.

Post-match drinks

After a big day on court, it’s time to wind down with the group.

Post-match drinks are the perfect opportunity to reflect on the day, celebrate your wins, laugh about the points you’d rather forget and get to know your fellow guests even better.

Our resorts are in some stunning locations, and your host will always be on the lookout for the perfect spot for a sunset drink!

Group dinner

While the quality of the coaching and amount of court time are obviously huge parts of an Active Away holiday, the social side of the trip doesn’t stop when you leave the court.

Your host will arrange the group dinners and share all the details in the WhatsApp group, including timings and meeting points, before everyone comes together for a fantastic evening meal.

Throughout the week, we aim to offer a variety of dining experiences and cuisines. Depending on your resort, that could mean authentic local cuisine, Asian food, steak, tapas and plenty more.

And, of course, joining the group dinner is completely your choice. If you fancy doing your own thing one evening, that’s absolutely fine. Simply let your host know, and they’ll be happy to help with alternative plans.
